The Pennyroyal Caxton Bible
I found this gem (the trade edition by viking studio) in a used book store in Seaside Oregon, in mint condition. It is one of, if not, the most gorgeous Bible I own. Tonight I was reading through the dust jacket and noticed that it says it's the Frederick Scrivner 1873 edition of the King James Bible. Have any of you heard of this text? Is it faithful?
I guess it doesn't surpise me that it's not a PCE, nevertheless I sure wish I could put this in everyones hand. It really is something to behold! http://www.pennyroyalcaxton.com http://www.amazon.com/Holy-Bible-ver.../dp/0670887978 Peace and Love, Stephen |

I think I have seen one like that put out by the Doves Press, and the typography was very ornate.
The F. H. A. Scrivener edition was made in 1873, printed by Cambridge, where "A few variations from the ordinary Text, chiefly the spelling of certain words, and in the italics, will be noticed." Have a look at John 10:25, where he messes up the tense of "believed" (making it "believe"), puts 1 John 5:7 in brackets and has "hope" instead of "faith" in Hebrews 10:23, etc. |

And don't ferget that Scrivener doesn't even know what it means to strain at a gnat .
