Although the ESV preface claims that it is built upon the foundation of of the great translations of the past. Check their website out, I was looking at it the other day when Ericwgreene mentioned it was his preference of version.
“Would you believe it took nearly 500 years to translate the ESV Bible? That’s because the ESV builds on the great translations of the past—including William Tyndale’s New Testament of 1526 and the King James Version (KJV) of 1611.”
But they go a step further and claim that the ESV, get this "Is translated from the originals!!"

the funny thing about this is, WE DON'T HAVE THE ORIGINALS
Matthew 24:35
Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
The Originals "passed away" so they cant be the words that God is talking about.
While the ESV says that it builds upon the great translations of the past, that couldn't be further from the truth for its based on the Westcott and Hort Greek text.
