Packer is a calvinist. I am not and we would not agree. his view is base on interpretation of scriputre out of context, mine is based on clear scripture context. I have read a lot of Packers stuff and I got rid of them when I realized he was not biblical in atonement being for only the saved(limited atonement), preserving only the Saved(preservation of the saints), drawing only the saved (irrisitable grace), man has no free will to choose(total depravity), and choosing only the saved(unconditional election).
Gods choice is made clear that he chose us IN HIM. that is he by foreknowledge chose those whom he saw would accept Christ there by being in him he blessed us with all spiritual blessings, to be Holy and without blame before him, to be predestined.Etc etc Etc.... Eph 1. some think God's way of choosig does not exist in scripture but it does.
