MC you are correct about the life spans, great point.

And yes Stephen, I think the use of magnetics may have been possible, that's kind of what I was getting at with the science toy that seemed to defy gravity. Who knows what type of technology was available, perhaps some type of plasma-propelled craft, for example they are now experimenting with magnetohydrodynamics, the force created when a current or a magnetic field is passed through a conducting fluid, this technology is still in its infancy but check this out:
