Purpose driven or Christ directed?

Although the book, "The Purpose Driven Life" has already found its way into many (if not most) Christian homes and churches, I wanted to edify you with this brief "critique" of the book that was written by a dear pastor friend of mine. I do not wish to stir up any debate on the subject, but rather, to simply direct you to the all-sufficiency and preeminence of Christ. The man who wrote this article is in his 70's, love Jesus Christ, and lives by faith. Like all of us, he does not claim to be superior in his views, but I have benefited from his teaching and counsel.

Hope you will too. :)

You want purpose driven life? i'll even throw in 40 days of Love, if that is what you desire. I can only handle soo much Love, you would think that is the only word said in the Bible. For a limited time only, you could also have a free membership to Promise Keepers. Hey,while we are at it, lets have some good ole,I wanna be a Rock Star Guitar Hero video games.:D
Sorry, if i offended anyone.

It is good to be purpose-driven if the purpose is pure.
Quote:

Philippians 3:14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Me thinks that the author of the popular book also had a purpose. $$$$$$$$$$

Hello Brother Tim. What do you think the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus is?

Brother Tim 11-16-2008 01:21 PM

For my Master to say to me in that day, "Well done, good and faithful servant."

Amen to that. I was thinking Paul gives us a clue when he wrote, "That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;..." (Philippians 3:10).

We get a glimpse into Paul's heart when he wrote earlier in his letter, "For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain" (Philippians 1:21).

I once heard someone say, "For me to live is Christ, to die is more Christ." To me the prize is not my achievements or the praises of men, it's knowing Christ.

He wrapped it up by declaring, "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me" (Philippians 4:13). I know he was speaking of temporal provision in this particular verse, however, this is one of those instances where a broad application is appropriate. I can, through Christ! The prize? Jesus Christ. knowing Him. Abiding in His presence.

This is the goal my Father has set for me; this is what I want to hear. THEN I will know my life honoured and glorified Him.

Regarding the purpose-driven thing, I have found it to be true in my own life that the devil drives; the Spirit leads.

Kittn1, I can understand what your intent is with your saying, and it is a neat idea, but be careful of sayings. Search and match Scripture. Look at what was said of Jesus at His temptation:
Quote:

Mark 1:12 And immediately the Spirit driveth him into the wilderness.

mental note to self...

...good point there, Brother Tim!
