I was a TRS-80 man from 1978 until the late 80's. My first was a Model I with 4K of RAM, one of the first sold in our city. I made a living writing custom software for the Mod I & III for about 6-7 years. I ported my last customer over to PC in the late 90's. In between I also wrote software using the CP/M platform.

For our students, I had a C64 and several Atari's (400's & 800's). I had one math drill program that worked only on the C64. When that machine went down, I lost the best graphics-based drill program ever written. :(

I learned to operate computers in 1980 on an old IBM, my computer was in two parts the size of of each was that of a 12 cubit meter refrigerator, one was the CPU tower and the other was my LPT one reel to reel. keyboards were large and bulky and the Monitors were either green or orange.

the next computer I used regularly was in 1993 and it was a 1991 MAC w/pre windows software, next I had a 286 IBM, then a Intel 386, 486, and now I have a P5P800 with a Celurion 3200CPU with only DDR400 512MB Ram and currently a 175GB HD, NEC flat screen monitor and a firewire card for videos upload and a video capture card for VHS tape conversion. all of which was supplied by the Lord.

So which is best?

Kewl. I love me 128, but of course now they have made enjoying the Original Manuscript obsolete, there are now C-64 emulators and programs for them out there. Woe is me!

My mother had the 1978 TRS-80 that is what I learned on in our home. I had to input all programing first then it would work, but never thought it would ever have help me until I got a job in 1980.

I like computer Hardware more than programing.

I enjoy the "art" of programming.

At one time, there was good money to be made in hardware sales and service. What happened for me was, the prices dropped so low that the profit was minuscule, and then people expected me to give a "lifetime" warranty because I was an individual business-owner. I could not make any money after the big-box electronics stores began to sell PCs cheaper than my wholesale.

You can actually find old C64s for fairly cheap online, some used video game stores, the occasional thrift store/garage sale, and at the various "retro gaming" conventions that pop up here and there.

Diligent needs to update his page with more photos. We have several Commodores. One that he spray painted cherry red and updated with some new hardware, a "classic", as well as a luggable C64, and the 128. It's kind of a hobby for us. :)
