“…..resist not evil”

“…..resist not evil”

But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. Matthew 5:39

When Jesus stated this “resist not evil”, was he like talking about governments like the Nazi, and Stalin? How passive should a Christian be? Should we allow evil to slaughter the innocent? Does Roman 13, excuse the Christian from resisting the dishonest and abuses of the government? And in light of the Constitution of the United State what is the Christian responsibility? Should the Christian ignore the law of the land to obey the elected authority? Did God really set up theses authority to be obeyed? When the Anti-Christ set up his order of authority, is the Christian to obey him also?
What is going on with the church in not being concern with the evil in the depth of the government of the Untied State, rather it is focused on the symptoms of this evil and not the cause.
It is like the church has been neutralized in the social structure, with the divinations of the perversion of the word of God.
Does the Truth even matter to the main stream church any more?

Aloha brother Scott,

Apply the "historical" - "doctrinal" - "spiritual" application and then add the WHO: is speaking; WHO: Is He speaking to; etc. and I believe that you can answer your own question.

By the way, I'm still working on your question about the church - I got "sidetracked" for a little while.

Scott,

we must beware of thinking that Jesus spoke in oposition with the rest of the Scriptures especially the NT writings of Paul.

We are not to resist the governing Authority to do so is to resist God.

answer the questions George suggested so you can find the answer.

plus look for Pauls teaching on Men not living peaceable, are we to walk an extra mile with those that kidnap us, are we to give all our clothing to a mugger on the street. youwould have to add thes to your list not just resisting evil.

also what Gospel is Jesus Promoting?

That should help you a little more for thought
