A City Set On a Hill

The following passage has been freely claimed by many "Christian" groups, as well by cults.

Matthew 5:14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

I took a look at this verse and I am amazed of how Scripture clearly interprets itself.

SYMBOL: INTERPRETATION:
1. light (v.14) ----------------------------ye (v.14)
2. candle (v.15)--------------------------city (v.14)
3.candlestick (v.15)--------------------- hill (v.14)
4. house (v.15)--------------------------world (v.14)
5. light (v.16)---------------------------good works (v.16)

"YE the light of the world" - The "ye" refers to the audience: the JEWS (Israel).

"CANDLE...on a CANDLESTICK" - "CITY that is set on an HILL" (Jerusalem on Mt. Zion)

"light unto all that are in the HOUSE" - "light of the WORLD"

"Let your LIGHT so shine before men" - "that they may see your GOOD WORKS"

SYMBOLISM: A "candle" on a "candlestick" is lit, and the "light" (light rays) from the "light" (the fire itself; the actual light) lights the whole "house".

INTERPRETATION: Jerusalem on Mt. Zion will be where the Lord Jesus Christ will reign in the Millennium, and after Israel will repent and be converted ("good works"; at the end of the Tribulation period), then the Gentiles will also be blessed after Israel is blessed.
